Ticket Sales and Course Registration

Can I buy tickets at the box office?
Yes, on performance days, the box office at the NU building is open from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Please note that it's card payment only.

How do I order tickets for a theater performance?
All performances are listed here. Click on the performance you want to attend for more information. At the top of each performance page, there is a bar with the date and time. On the right side of this bar, there's a starting price. Once the sales start, a "Order" button will appear.

  1. Click on Order.
  2. Specify the number of tickets you want to order (for most performances, there's a maximum of 10 tickets per visitor).
  3. Click on Best Available Seats.
  4. Tickets are set to Regular rate by default. You can change this by adjusting the number under Discount or Student.*
  5. Click on Add to Cart. Your tickets will be held for 20 minutes so you can complete your order.
  6. Use a Promo Code (not a gift voucher) if applicable.
  7. Click on Checkout. If you're not logged in yet, you'll be asked to log in (see FAQs about your account).
  8. Choose the preferred payment method. If you have credit on your account, you can choose to use it for payment (see FAQs about vouchers and credits).
  9. Enter a gift voucher if applicable.
  10. Verify your order and click on Pay. You can now proceed to payment through Griffioen (Stichting VU) in the Mollie payment system. You can also use your podiumcadeaukaart here.
  11. Once you've completed the payment, you'll be directed to a Thank You page and you'll receive your tickets in your mailbox within 30 minutes. If you haven't received anything, check your spam folder. If you can't find it in your spam folder, contact us at theater.griffioen@vu.nl. *The Discount rate applies to visitors with a CJP pass, stadspas Amstelveen/Amsterdam, and VU employees. You are considered a Griffioen student if you are a full-time student at an MBO, HBO, or WO institution in the Netherlands or a part-time or pre-master student at VU. Discount proofs and student cards are always checked at the entrance.

How can I register for a course?
All courses are listed here. Click on the course you want to enroll in for more information. At the top of each course page, there's a bar with the date and time. On the right side of this bar, there's a starting price. Once the sales start, a "Order" button will appear.

I'd like to reserve tickets for a performance, but the regular tickets are no longer available. Why is that?
Some performances have a 'blockade,' which means that tickets are reserved for students, VU employees, or other visitors with discount passes. We do this to make our theater more attractive to students, as we are part of the Vrije Universiteit. Up to three weeks before the performance, we'll reevaluate whether regular tickets can still be sold. If you want to be kept informed, email us at theater.griffioen@vu.nl. You'll be added to the waiting list for the performance and will be notified first when tickets become available again.

The performance for which I bought tickets has been canceled or rescheduled to a date I can't attend. What now?
If a performance is canceled or rescheduled, we will send you an information email as soon as possible. This email might end up in your spam folder, so make sure to check there too. In either case, you have the right to a refund of your purchase amount within the specified period, both for rescheduled performances and cancellations. You can also choose to convert the reservation into credit.

I want to buy tickets for a performance, but I can't choose seats. Is that correct?
That's correct, at theater VU Griffioen, tickets are unassigned. This means that you (almost) always have the option to sit together. The earlier you arrive, the more choice you'll have. Additionally, all seats in the theater provide good visibility of the stage. Our ushers ensure that this is managed smoothly.

I've bought tickets for one of your performances, but I unexpectedly can't attend. What now?
Of course, we understand that sometimes you or someone you're going with might be unable to attend a performance you've bought tickets for. In such cases, we try to accommodate you as best as possible. According to our terms and conditions, you can convert ticket reservations into credit up to one week before the performance. You can use this credit when placing your next ticket order and logging in with your account details. The credit is valid for two years.

I want to reserve tickets for a performance, but I can't reserve 5 or more tickets. Why is that?
Indeed, there's a maximum limit on the number of tickets per email address. This is in place to prevent bulk purchasing of tickets and easy resale. If you want to attend the performance with a group (such as your colleagues, a student association, etc.), contact us at theater.griffioen@vu.nl.

The tickets for the performance I want to attend are all sold out. Can I join a waiting list?
It's unfortunate that you couldn't secure tickets for the performance you wanted to attend. On the performance's page, you can sign up for the waiting list through our website. If tickets become available, we will contact the person at the top of the waiting list. Sometimes, tickets are returned at the last minute, so it's beneficial if your account is associated with a phone number so we can reach you this way too. We Are Public

Click here for information about We Are Public. With a We Are Public membership, you get unlimited access to an ultimate selection of performances, concerts, films, exhibitions, and festivals for €18 per month.

I want to attend a performance with a We Are Public pass, how do I arrange that?
It's great that you want to attend a performance with your WAP pass. By sending an email to theater.griffioen@vu.nl, you can reserve a ticket for the performance. Please provide your name, last name, and email address, as well as the names and email addresses of anyone else you intend to bring. You can pick up your ticket on the evening of the performance at our counter by showing your WAP pass. If you want to attend the performance last-minute with a WAP pass, call our counter at 020-5985100, and they can create a reservation for you. https://griffioen.vu.nl/info-en-contact/we-are-public

Your Account Why do I need an account?
You need an account so that we can always verify your ticket orders or course enrollments, even if you've lost your tickets or enrollment confirmation. We collect your contact information so that we can send you important information about the performance or course, especially in the case of cancellations.

How do you handle my data?
Your data is processed in our ticketing system, Itix, in accordance with the GDPR, the General Data Protection Regulation. You can always request the data we have stored about you and ask us to delete your account. When we delete your account, your personal data will be anonymized, and we will retain only data relevant to our administration, such as order dates (number of tickets, etc.). Please also read our Privacy Policy.

I already have an account. How do I log in?

  1. Go to the account page or click on the account icon in the menu bar.
  2. Click on "Forgot Password" under 'Already known to us?'
  3. Enter the email address associated with your account and click on "Request." You'll receive a new password in your mailbox, which you can use to log in.
  4. If you haven't received an email in your inbox or spam folder after 10 minutes, contact us at theater.griffioen@vu.nl.

I'm a new customer. How do I create an account?

  1. Go to the account page or click on the account icon in the menu bar.
  2. Enter your name, email address, and desired password.
  3. Choose whether you want to receive theater and/or course news.
  4. Click on "Create Account." You can now log in using your email address and password.

Accessibility

I want to attend a performance, but I or someone I'm with is disabled/hearing impaired. What are the options at VU Griffioen?
We believe it's important that our theater is accessible to everyone. VU Griffioen is equipped with excellent facilities for people in wheelchairs. The theater stages have level platforms, making them accessible to everyone. The course rooms are also accessible due to the presence of an elevator, and there is an accessible toilet. Additionally, we have supporting equipment for the hearing impaired. Credits and Refunds

I received credit. How can I use it?
In step 3 of your order (Payment), if you have credit on your account, you'll have the option to use it for payment. This amount will be deducted from the total. Next, click on "Pay." If there's a remaining balance, you can pay via the Mollie payment platform. If the remaining balance is €0, you'll receive your tickets or enrollment confirmation in your mailbox. If you haven't received anything within 30 minutes, check your spam folder. If you can't find it in your spam folder, contact us at theater.griffioen@vu.nl.

I had credit on my account, but I don't see it. What should I do?
If you had credit on your account but it's not visible in the checkout process, first check if you're logged in with the correct email address. Your credit is linked to the email address you used for previous ticket purchases. If you're logged in with the correct account but you still don't see credit in the checkout process at step 3, contact us at theater.griffioen@vu.nl. Your credit is valid for two years.

I bought tickets for a performance that's been canceled or rescheduled to a date I can't attend. When will I get my money back?
When a performance is canceled or rescheduled, you'll receive an email from us as soon as possible. If you prefer a refund instead of credit, you can respond to our cancellation/rescheduling email within one month with your IBAN account number and the account holder's name.
